Abstract: In the long-term development process, traditional Chinese culture has gradually formed its own characteristics, and is known for its extensive and long history, which, to a certain extent, provides a good environment for the Chinese people’s survival and reproduction. Introducing Marxist philosophy into China has played an important role in the practical work of China’s revolutionary construction. At the same time, the theoretical community is constantly exploring the common ground between Marxist philosophy and traditional Chinese culture. In the new era of socialist construction, it is necessary to have a profound understanding of traditional Chinese culture. Therefore, in order to prompt China to realize the Chinese dream as soon as possible and the Chinese nation’s great renaissance, this paper focused on the integration of traditional Chinese culture and Marxist philosophy, and explored the new evolution of the sinicization of Marxist philosophy in the new historical period.

Research on the Combination of Marxism and Traditional Chinese Philosophy from the Ideological Field
In view of the discussion of the guiding position of Marxism in the ideological field, it is necessary to seek the compatibility with Marxism in the traditional Chinese philosophical culture, and then consolidate the guiding position of Marxism in the ideological field in the combination with the traditional Chinese philosophical culture, so as to realize the consolidation of the position of Marxism in the ideological field. This paper first analyses the guiding position of Marxism in the ideological field, then analyses the Marxist thought in the traditional Chinese philosophical culture, and finally elaborates the idea of consolidating the guiding position of Marxism in the ideological field by the traditional Chinese philosophical culture.
Abstract Adapting the basic tenets of Marxism to outstanding traditional Chinese culture is a major issue in the current and future development of Marxism in China. This paper attempts to sort out the historical relationship of ‘contradiction’ and ‘adaptation’ between Marxism and traditional Chinese culture in the process of development. It summarizes the basic ideas that have been developed in the academic community concerning the ‘two aspects’ involved with adapting Marxism to the Chinese context and the typical achievements represented by Mao Zedong Thought. The paper also proposes that the challenge of adapting the basic tenets of Marxism and outstanding traditional Chinese culture should continue to focus on comprehensive innovation as the basic principle, prioritize cultural identity as the crucial direction for further progress, and take daily life as the central field of exploration.

The transformation of classical Marxist concepts in national philosophical systems is increasingly relevant in the search for effective models of social development amid the global challenges of the twenty-first century. This study examined the reception and adaptation of classical Marxism in modern Chinese philosophical thought to understand the factors behind China’s socio-economic success. The methodology employed historical, comparative, and systematic analyses of theoretical texts, official Communist Party documents, and socio-economic data from 2000 to 2020. Findings reveal that the transformation of classical Marxism within Chinese philosophy involved reinterpreting the role of the peasantry in revolution and adapting class struggle theory to the complex structure of a semi-colonial society. Methodological innovations emerged through dialectical approaches such as the principle of “seeking truth from facts” and the pragmatic method of “crossing the river by feeling for stones,” which integrated planned economic principles with market mechanisms. The interaction of Marxism and traditional Chinese philosophy provided a theoretical foundation for far-reaching socio-economic changes. These are reflected in China’s reduction of poverty from 30.7% to 0.6% between 2000 and 2019 and sustained GDP growth averaging 8–10% annually over two decades. The study concludes that the mechanisms of conceptual transformation and practical application of Marxist theory illustrate how philosophical systems adapt to distinct cultural contexts. Such insights are valuable for developing socio-economic strategies that align with national conditions while addressing global development challenges.

Guiding and regulating capital scientifically in the process of Chinese modernization and ensuring that capital serves the goals of Chinese modernization is an important issue in contemporary China. The solution to this issue should be drawn from two key intellectual resources. The first is Marxist political economy, which centres upon the analysis of the capital issue. Marx’s analysis of capital, particularly in Volume I of Das Kapital, reveals the essence of capital through social relations and replaces empirical positivism with the force of abstraction, thereby analysing the characteristics and operation laws of capital in the production process of capitalist society. The second resource is Chinese fine traditional culture, which reflects political wisdom, governance strategies, and value orientations, including the ideas of “Shan” (善, felicity) and “Yi” (义,appropriateness), “Tian Xia Wei Gong” (天下为公,The World Belongs to All) and so on. Marxism and Chinese traditional culture share points of convergence. Together, these two intellectual resources provide scientific insights and critical guidance for understanding the capital issue in the socialist market economy of contemporary China, harnessing better the positive role of capital as a factor of production while mitigating its negative effects.
Abstract Rural sage culture is a cultural phenomenon in traditional China. This article explores the emergence and development of the rural sage shrine and uses the former Henan provincial administrative commissioner Wan Yi’s rituals to the rural sage shrine in 1614 as a case study to illustrate that the Confucian tradition of local rituals permeated and influenced the election culture of local society during the Ming Dynasty. The abolition of the imperial examination system at the end of the Qing Dynasty and the absence of a new bureaucratic system made it difficult for the traditional rural sages to survive as the old and new forces were renewed, which led to the cultural spirit of the traditional village sages becoming increasingly blurred in modern China. After the reform and opening up in 1978, China’s policy of reshaping rural grassroots society was put forward, which provided a good social environment and guaranteed the emergence of “new rural sages”. New rural sages were born in the wave of reform in the new era. From this historical experience, it is concluded that the nomination of rural sages to the shrine was a means of valuing rural talents. In the process of innovation and development of the culture of the rural sage, contemporary China has given a new mission to the “new rural sage”, that is, to transform the folk customs, to build models, and to correctitude value tropism.

A number of studies have been carried out on the importance and connotation of tourism culture. However, from the literature study of tourism culture, it is found that there is still a gap between the remolding of tourism culture and the development of tourism enterprises in the digital era. This study aims to identify the enterprise clustering effect and employment benefit of rural tourism culture reshaping. By empirical research, this study establishes a new conceptual research framework for rural tourism sustainability to cover the gap between the cultural reshaping and enterprise development for rural tourism in Zhejiang. We began with investigation to villagers on their acceptance of reshaped tourism culture. Through interviews with entrepreneurs, this study investigates the relationship between tourism cultural reshaping and tourism enterprise image. An enterprise network of regional tourism cultural IP image has been established to describe the density among the whole tourism cultural industry. The location entropy index is adopted to show the employment in tourism enterprises. This index reflects residents’ acceptance of the reshaped cultural image as a key influencing factor of enterprises’ sustainable development. Furthermore, it is found that tourism cultural reshaping is a significant base for rural tourism industry clustering. The research results suggest that tourism corporation can contribute to the local tourism economy by reshaping culture.
This study explores, through the lens of rural revitalization, how local cultural heritage can be activated and turned into an endogenous driver for rural cultural and creative industries. Focusing on Jiande City in Zhejiang Province, China, it draws on longitudinal fieldwork conducted between 2021 and 2024. Methodologically, the research employed participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and focus group discussions with key stakeholders from local government bodies—such as the Organization Department and the Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism and Sports Bureau—as well as village communities, including Meicheng Town. Based on this empirical work, the study advances a theoretical framework centered on “cultural gene decoding,” structured around three core phases: cultural decoding, creative transformation, and multi-stakeholder collaboration. This process involves excavating fragmented local cultural memories and transforming them into culturally resonant narratives and creative products with contemporary appeal. Cases such as “Strawberry Town” and “Qianhe Women’s Culture” in Jiande illustrate the emergence of an integrated “culture + industry + technology + academia” ecosystem. Within this ecosystem, the international journal Agricultural & Rural Studies plays a pivotal role by translating local practices into academic discourse, thereby connecting grassroots experiences with global dialog and enhancing international visibility.
ABSTRACT The relationship between culture and economy is facing a new phase based on an increasing connection between culture, creativity and technological innovation. A New Era is beginning where cultural organisations may face different challenges that emerged from the diffusion of digital technology. The digital revolution has pervaded and transformed not only various industrial sectors, but the whole of society. The most evident consequences are in terms of new forms of representation of cultural heritage, growing creative capacity and new market niches. This edited collection seeks to enlarge this debate with the aim of offering a wide discussion of topics related to the role of new technologies and innovation for cultural and creative sectors and organisations. In particular, the objective is twofold: (a) understanding new dynamics generated by digital transformation and how they may affect the cultural and creative industries and organisations; (b) identifying the new challenges in the development of new trajectories for cultural and creative sectors in the Digital Era.

The existence of the creative industry is one of the characteristics of the knowledge economy where its form may vary between countries. For many developing countries as well as Indonesia, creative industry plays important roles. Bandung, known as emerging creative city, has many factors to promote the creative industry. Many creative ideas that come out of the talented young people can be transformed into creative products such as batik fractal. This research aims to study the batik fractal's road map that has successfully transformed the creative ideas by utilising enabling factors that already exist. The method used was qualitative research method through in depth interview and triangulation of what was presented by the founder of the batik fractal. The results showed that at every phase of its development, the founders were able to integrate internal and external supporting factors to continue to develop to the next stage.

Background: In the past century, the importance of historical villages has been highly recognized, as they serve aesthetic, functional, and environmental values and can foster local socioeconomic development through the heritagization process. The purpose of this paper is to outline the core features of the preservation and management of historical villages in the European and Chinese contexts. Methods: Using a qualitative systematic literature review, the research was based on international academic papers covering 73 case studies from the two contexts, addressing the fact that little work has been carried out comparing European and Chinese realities. Results: Similarities and differences in rural cultural heritage preservation and management between Europe and China were compared and discussed, paying particular attention to historical villages in both contexts. Using this method, rural heritage preservation in China can be better framed and analyzed for scholars engaged in both the Chinese and international contexts. Conclusions: Inspired by the European case studies, the research suggests that capacity building of different types of stakeholders, contextualized financial mechanism and multiple values the civic society perceived and recognized during the Chinese rural heritage preservation and management process should be further studied and implemented case by case based on a historical-sensitive approach. In addition, the issue of the lack of social capital and policy arrangements in rural areas should be further addressed to stimulate community resilience.
The elite group is an essential force in rural space production, which plays a non-negligible role in rural development. Amid the backdrop of the rural revitalisation strategy, tourism development in ethnic areas is booming under the guidance of rural tourism elites. Through a series of unstructured and semi-structured interviews, the mechanism of rural tourism elites is explained, and the factors affecting their role are identified based on the destination life cycle theory and push-pull theory. Results show the following: (1) The development of rural tourism has experienced the stages of exploration, involvement, development and consolidation. (2) Rural tourism elites have played leading, coordinating, guiding, and demonstrating roles in different stages of rural development. (3) Rural tourism elites are affected by both push and pull factors in participating in rural tourism. Push factors include personal experience and spiritual quality. Pull factors include government, market, and social network.
Rural revitalization stands as a current development strategy strongly advocated by the government, aimed at fostering rural economic development and improving the livelihood of rural residents. Central to this process is the active participation of the social elite, recognized as a major driving force behind rural revitalization efforts. Through a comprehensive literature review, this article groundbreakingly identifies three models of social elite involvement in China’s rural revitalization: government elite-led, capital elite-led, and intellectual elite-led. Employing a comparative case study approach focusing on three villages in Shunde (Qingtian Village, Fengjian Village, and Gulang Village), each representing one of the aforementioned models, this article conducted extensive field studies and in-depth interviews. By doing so, it aims to examine the strengths and weaknesses of each model, as well as the challenges they encounter. Ultimately, the study endeavors to uncover a locally sustainable model of social elite involvement that best suits the needs of the local community, thereby promoting greater achievements in the pursuit of rural revitalization.

Digital village construction is not only a strategic direction for rural revitalization but also a significant component in building a digital China. As a group of elite figures in rural society, new local elites play an increasingly prominent role in promoting rural governance. This paper examines the role of new local elites in digital village construction and addresses existing challenges such as misconceptions about new local elites, cultural integration difficulties, low social recognition, ambiguous responsibilities, and a lack of incentive mechanisms. The study proposes practical pathways, including fostering a culture that values new local elites, clarifying roles and responsibilities, nurturing talent, and improving incentive measures.

Under the background of the decline of rural society, the brain drain and the lack of endogenous development power are one of the main reasons restricting the development of rural China. Although village committees and village Party committees, as grassroots governance instictutions, have played a great role in the process of rural revitalization, it is still difficult to achieve effective governance in rural areas with only top-down bureaucratic power. Therefore, activating the vitality of local elites and promoting the bottom-up development of rural areas is the internal driving force of rural revitalization. However, local elites have neither the institutional power of grassroots cadres nor the same prestige as clan elders. Therefore, for local elites to gain effective governance power, they must go through a process of empowerment, that is, gaining recognition from various forces within the village. Taking the Yuanqian Community of Xiamen city in Fujian Province as an example, this paper analyzes the formation process of local elite power. In this process, local elites gained the trinity of administrative, social and economic empowerment, and became the subject of governance power and the leader of rural revitalization. A new rural governance network with local elites as the core was constructed in the Yuanqian Community. Under the role of the new governance network, the material space and industrial space of the village have been transformed, thus promoting the revitalization of the countryside. At the same time, the village gradually expanded its influence and eventually became a model village in the field of rural revitalization. Due to its growing influence, the Yuanqian Community has achieved sustainable development. Abstract: From the perspective of social view, we systematically sort out the historical background of Marxism' "second integration",and profoundly understand the profound, innovative, developmental and pluralistic value implications of the "second integration". We should also deeply understand the profound, innovative, developmental, and pluralistic value implications of the "second combination". The traditional Confucian view of society with "Mingde" as its cultural gene and the concept of free human association in the perspective of humanity as a whole have greatly enriched the theoretical connotation of the "second combination". Based on the above rich theoretical connotation,we have taken the "one center", i.e., the social concept of "the world is public" as the center, the "two basic points", i.e., moral cultivation as the fundamental basis of the relationship between oneself and the group, and the "two basic points", i.e., the moral cultivation as the fundamental basis of the relationship between oneself and the group. From "one center", i.e., centering on the social concept of "the world is public", "two basic points", i.e., moral cultivation as the fundamental basis of the relationship between oneself and one's group, and "harmony and difference" as the principle of interaction and integration, we are actively searching for the way of integration and the path of practice of the "second union" under the perspective of the social viewpoint.

In the new era, it is of great significance to integrate excellent traditional Chinese culture with ideological and political education. For the country and society, such integration is conducive to the unity of different ethnical groups and national reunification, promoting the national spirit and building our spiritual home, and it is also beneficial for developing the socialist market economy, building a harmonious society and world. For schools, it can help to build the campus culture, enhance the timeliness of ideological and political education and improve schools’ management level. For individuals, it can help students build their knowledge structure, cultivate their excellent ideological morality and behaviors, develop and practice the core values of socialism and enhance students’ cultural consciousness and cultural confidence. This paper aims to promote the integrated development of excellent traditional Chinese culture and ideological and political education through “three integrations”, i.e., to integrate theories with practice, with integrate online resources with offline resources and to integrate various powers from the school and families, thus providing reference and inspiration for ideological and political education.

Traditional villages along rivers have contributed significantly to local–regional development by transporting production and spreading culture through certain routes. To date, the cultural continuity of traditional villages has been underestimated in sustainable development with regard to practical dilemmas between conservation and development. This study explores an integrated approach to traditional villages in river basins that considers historic relics, locality, and spatial form. The cultural routes concept is introduced from the field of cultural heritage to link geographically scattered villages that shared the same cultural values and purposes in the past and to stimulate their potential as dynamic routes for further rural revitalization. In this context, the following subtopics are defined for a specific analysis of the lower Chishui River in Guizhou: an evolving framework of cultural routes and the spatial-temporal route of “Sichuan salt into Guizhou,” including its contemporary transformation. The findings of cultural and spatial coherence in historical texts, maps, morphological structures, and rural landscapes support a multi-cultural route model for sustainable development. The study extends the prevailing knowledge on cultural sustainability in rural revitalization and it provides novel insights into spatial development in basin environments.
With the massive urbanization and industrialization in China, the paradox between fast modernization and cultural preservation arouses challenges on new insight into green construction and sustainable development strategies throughout the nation. Particularly, how to strike a balanced cultural–modern rural revitalization has become a research priority, especially for cultural and historical villages in relatively under developed western regions. In this paper, taking Gaotunzi Village, a traditional ethnic village in western high-altitude plateau as an illustrative example, the typical green design manner and optimization strategy are proposed for cultural and architectural heritage preservation. The detailed architecture and structure design is conducted for both old temple retrofitting and new museum construction, with consideration for retaining traditional building colors, styles, and materials. Moreover, land use planning is demonstrated for local public space and services upgrading. The overall design strategy has been taken into practice for the local renovation construction program. The preliminary results indicate that this green retrofitting idea and approach are quite locally feasible for sustainable rural revitalization with local heritage conservation, including traditional wooden buildings, Buddhism belief, Tibetan icons, and ethnic symbolic culture preservation and promotion. This work can provide a typical design reference and application prototype for rural construction and modernization with local heritage preservation considerations, especially for those traditional villages in developing countries.

As a form of World Heritage, cultural landscapes have evolved linked with production systems and living space and have become an important topic of rural studies worldwide. This paper attempts to examine the development experiences of local revitalization combined with the cultural landscape in Songkou ancient town, China. Firstly, the rural livelihood-based landscape characteristics of mixing natural and man-made environments are the resources of cultural landscape development. Secondly, community action forms the cultural landscape through a spatial identification process involving place, identity, and heritage. Thirdly, “experience grafting” is a coordinated action for industrial development that has allowed the experience of community revitalization in Taiwan to make an effective contribution to the cultural landscape development of Songkou ancient town. The main findings are as follows: (1) The close connection between man and nature is confirmed from the perspective of landscape cognition and provides farmers with a means of earning a living. Hence, agricultural activities meet the principles of sustainable and organic agriculture by using natural resources responsibly. (2) By considering ecological orchards as cultural landscapes, community actions promote a consensus of local values and an effective way of making a livelihood.
PurposeThe main purpose of this study is to provide a decision-making basis for the development of a sustainability strategy by importance-performance analysis (IPA) methods. However, traditional and modified IPA methods do not accurately reveal the impact of the various dimensions of sustainable development (SD) on cultural landscape (CL). Based on the structural equation model (SEM), four main dimensions of SD were identified from the available data. This paper conducted an optimized IPA by building three SEMs based on importance, performance and the importance of four dimensions.Design/methodology/approachThis paper proposes the use of exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and SEM to develop the CL characteristic index evaluation model to determine the load of each indicator of importance and performance, and the SD-based measurement model to further determine the weight of the sustainability of each indicator in importance and performance. Afterwards, proposed sustainable strategies to the corresponding index were obtained.FindingsThis study offers useful insights into the actual operation and theoretical aspects of the IPA method.Practical implicationsThis study offers useful insights into the actual operation and theoretical aspects of the IPA method. This can solve the incongruous and uncertainty problem in the sustainable planning strategy, and the case study proves the feasibility of the IPA method combined with the influence of the structural equation.Social implicationsThe research is conducive to acceptance by local people with regard to their preferences in the perspective of sustainable development. The implementation of the rural revitalization strategy can effectively inherit the excellent traditional Chinese culture and facilitate the comprehensive development of the cultural industry. At present, China is promoting the transformation and upgrading of its industrial structure. The criterion for measuring the “cultural soft power” of a country or region is the competitiveness of its cultural industry. The cultural industry has grown rapidly in recent years, and the overall economic benefits of the industry have also improved, effectively alleviating the employment pressure across the country. However, there are still many problems. How to accurately measure the level of competitiveness of the regional cultural industry and enhance its competitiveness is the first problem in the development of the cultural industry. It finds out the main factors that affect the competitiveness of the cultural industry in the context of rural revitalization strategy using the relevant theories of cultural industry and industrial competitiveness. Besides, the evaluation index system of cultural industry competitiveness is constructed from the perspective of the system. The projection pursuit model and data envelopment analysis model are established based on the genetic algorithm. The model is used to carry out empirical research on the competitiveness level of cultural industry in a region, and conclusions are drawn. The average projected value of the base competitiveness in the region exceeds 0.8. The average projected value of dominant competitiveness exceeds 0.7. The average projected value of potential competitiveness exceeds 1.1. This research proposes corresponding suggestions for the problems in the current growth of the cultural industry in this region through the competitiveness of this region and the level of other areas. This study can also provide some help for the in-depth study of the Chinese cultural industry.
Within the framework of the national rural revitalization strategy, rural culture is recognized as an irreplaceable asset that plays a critical role in promoting local economic development and social harmony. This paper thoroughly explores the challenges that modernization poses to the preservation of traditional culture, under-scoring the significance of rural cultural heritage in the revitalization process. Ad-dressing the issues of cultural discontinuity and the migration of the younger generation from rural areas, this study proposes robust strategies for developing and sustaining the inheritance of rural culture. These include establishing comprehensive policies for cultural heritage support, innovating cultural development models, exploring potential interregional and international cooperation, and developing innovative cultural products and services. Aimed at strengthening policy formulation and practical implementation, these strategies integrate economic incentives with cultural activities; utilize technological advancements to enhance cultural dissemination; and promote regional and international cooperation to enrich cultural exchanges. They provide a sustainable model that both protects and revitalizes rural culture while ensuring its growth and relevance in the contemporary socio-economic landscape offering theoretical guidance for policymakers.

As the central priority of China's “Agriculture, Rural Areas, and Farmers” initiatives in the new era, the Rural Revitalization Strategy confronts practical challenges of cultural hollowing-out and intergenerational discontinuity during the modernization of agriculture and rural communities. The paradoxical coexistence of diminishing traditional farming heritage and imbalanced contemporary cultural resources establishes the cultivation of rural cultural ethos as a critical breakthrough point for strategic implementation. University students emerge as innovative catalysts for revitalizing rural cultural heritage through their knowledge capital and modern perspectives. Their engagement addresses dual imperatives: remedying talent deficits in grassroots cultural governance and facilitating bidirectional cultural exchange between urban and rural systems. Current practices reveal systemic constraints including fragmented participation, misalignment between supply and demand of cultural services, and insufficient institutionalization mechanisms, necessitating comprehensive solutions. This study investigates the operational dilemmas and breakthrough strategies of student-led cultural interventions, grounded in the coupling logic of cultural rejuvenation and human capital development. Based on the coupling logic of cultural revitalization and talent revitalization, this paper focuses on the realistic dilemma and breakthrough path of college students' participation in rural cultural construction, and provides theoretical reference for the construction of sustainable rural cultural ecology.
Communities are fundamental to national development, functioning as essential social units where local cultural identity and public participation play a crucial role. However, rapid urbanization has led to a decline in interpersonal interactions, weakened community bonds, and increased social divides, which in turn reduce residents’ engagement in public affairs. This study aims to explore the relationship between cultural identity and community revitalization to promote sustainable community development. We will achieve this by analyzing the implementation experiences of two rural Taiwanese communities: Huanan Community in Gukeng, Yunlin, and Chenggong Community in Dadou, Taichung City. Using exploratory factor analysis and regression analysis as our methodologies, we seek to understand how cultural identity fosters cohesion, enhances participation, and supports sustainable development in community revitalization. Our research findings indicate that cultural identity is composed of cultural engagement, cultural belonging, and cultural integration. Conversely, community revitalization encompasses aspects of daily life, life experiences, personal economic evaluation, community industry development, and residents’ environmental awareness. The overall research framework demonstrates that cultural identity has a strong influence on community revitalization, identifying strategies to improve residents’ quality of life and foster vibrant communities.

Intangible cultural heritage (ICH) is reported to be disappearing rapidly. Collaboration among different persons is critical to the preservation of ICH inheritance. Previous studies have focused mainly on the inheritance of ICH from the individual perspective, while ignoring the perspective of multi-subject collaboration. For this study, we developed and applied an extended theory of planned behavior (TPB) to examine the effectiveness of the intentions and behaviors of public participation in the inheritance of ICH during the collaboration process in the inheritance of Regong art in Qinghai Province, China. Structural equation modeling was used to evaluate the strength of relationships among constructs, and a questionnaire (completed by 351 residents) was used to collect data. The results show that this extended theory of planned behavior can be applied in the evaluation of the collaboration process in the inheritance of ICH. We also introduce a novel construct to the TPB, ‘shared religious beliefs’, defined as uniformity of religion within a social group (in this case, an ethnic minority group), that is, a mono-religious community. Our results show that this construct has a significantly positive effect on collaboration intention among the general public.
Tourism development has become a vital means of stimulating economic growth in ethnic communities, but it has also triggered multiple challenges, such as cultural distortion and intergenerational discontinuity. Resilience-Based Cultural Inheritance (RBCI) is vital for the sustainable development of cultural heritage. Existing research has yet to fully elucidate its influencing factors and complex formation mechanisms, highlighting the need for theoretical exploration and empirical verification. A mixed-methods research design was implemented, combining grounded theory and fuzzy-set Qualitative Comparative Analysis (fsQCA) in the setting of the Qiandongnan Ethnic Cultural Ecological Protection Area. The first phase of the research utilized grounded theory to identify factors that influence RBCI. This phase incorporated both primary and secondary data to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the conclusions. The second phase employed fsQCA to examine the configurations and generative mechanisms underlying High and Non-High RBCI. The reliability of these fsQCA findings was subsequently verified through robustness tests. Based on a “Government-Community-Market” analytical framework consisting of six core factors and 17 indicators, the formation pathways of RBCI were identified. The results indicate that High RBCI can be attributed to two types, encompassing a total of six configurations: the “Tripartite Collaboration” and the “Market-led and Community-Collaborated” types. Non-High RBCI is explained by three types reflected in six causal paths, identified as the “Community-Deficient,” “Market-Deficient and Community-Rigid,” and “Comprehensive Imbalance” types. A detailed analysis is provided for each configuration. Theoretically, this work identifies multiple concurrent causes of RBCI formation, thereby expanding the application boundary of resilience theory in the field of cultural inheritance. Practically, it provides precise strategies for the government, communities, and markets to balance cultural protection and tourism development collaboratively, fostering a positive cycle of “tourism boosting inheritance and inheritance invigorating tourism” in ethnic communities.
Abstract Community participation is a key part of heritage management. However, in practice, unlike natural heritage, the nature of community participation within cultural heritage is seldom assessed, nor are there theoretical frameworks developed to baseline such assessments. To fill this knowledge gap, this paper developed and tested an assessment framework, to assess community participation within cultural heritage. Based on the conceptualisation of community participation from heritage management policies, a literature review was conducted to develop an assessment framework, including four criteria and 23 indicators. This assessment framework was tested on the management practices of 36 Chinese cultural heritage properties inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List from 1987 to 2018. Using content analysis as a method, this research applied this assessment framework to UNESCO documents, reporting on the state-of-the-practice of heritage management as applied to Chinese World Heritage. The results provide an overview of the current situation on how community participation is positioned within World Heritage management in China. Several World Heritage properties in China have reported relatively high community participation in examples such as Honghe Hani Rice Terraces and Kulangsu. However, most of them demonstrate minimal community participation, such as the Yungang Grottoes and Lushan National Park. Moreover, the assessment framework of community participation in heritage management has been extended and improved, which is relevant to heritage management practices worldwide.
Problem statement: Museums were places where all collections, which indicated values of arts and cultural heritages that were useful for learning, were kept. Establishment of museums was successful by having development, systematic management, cultural inheritance, knowledge transferring, participation and support. Approach: This study aimed to study backgrounds of museum development in temples in the area of the lower northeastern, to study current conditions and problems about museum management in temples and cultural management with community participation in the lower northeastern and to study development and management of museum in temples and cultural inheritance by community participation in the lower northeastern. This research was a qualitative research and conducted by literature review and field data collecting with interviewing, observations, focus group discussions and workshops with 170 persons from group of key informants, casual informants and related agencies. Data were analyzed with cultural diffusion theory and presented results in form of descriptive analysis. Results: The study revealed that backgrounds of museum development in temple were initiated by monks, who collected things in old building without systematic exhibition, labeling of donators or source indicating. Most of collections were things in that community such as traditional utensil donated to temple when they were unused and the rest was from other communities. After having many of collections, monks asked community for fund raising to construct museum building in the area of that temple. Moreover, things from discovering of local archeological sites were also kept in museum and there were many visitors. After that an agency of Fine Arts Department came to study and research by using budgets for the second exploring such local archeological sites and then kept in buildings of temple museum. Currently, it was found that; (1) there was a simple management on antiques of 1500-3000 years ago, agricultural equipments aged of 60 yeas up, but they were still lacking of contents to indicate their values and importance and monks played their roles as curators. Collections were temporally kept in some building or under construction for being permanent museum and had not any registration. (2) For cultural inheritance there were activities on annual local traditions of festivals and opened for teachers, students and pupils to study bodies of knowledge in the museum and (3) for participation, temple and community would coordinate teachers to attend meeting on temple activities. Development of museum in temple, it was found that; (1) Body of knowledge management in temple was operated by a working group consisted of curator and museum controller. For museum building, there were exhibitions with good space for allocation and suggestion from experts to register collections. Museum was also provided with car park and toilets both in and outside building. (2) For cultural inheritance, there was indigenous knowledge transfer, local historical investigation, students and teachers came to learn and be trained as guides. (3) In aspect of participation, museum management was in form of collaborated working by meeting, planning, activities providing and decision making. A joint committee was appointed by temple to cooperation among temple, community and schools. Conclusion/Recommendations: Museum development in temple by community participation for supporting body of knowledge in museum and did their duty in maintenance was reducing burdens both of temple and government sector. Museum would be maintained by development of educational benefits for the next generations. Meanwhile, related agencies should support, assist, suggest and frequently survey data of museum in temple. These were for transferring to community with knowledge, development, management and maintenances all collections in museum. Finally, community should provide museum in temple with guide training, security guards and analyzing works step-by-step for further development.

Tourism is an important method for the revitalization and utilization of agricultural cultural heritage, with farmers playing a pivotal role in the development of agricultural heritage tourism (AHT). The implementation of AHT from the lens of farmer participation is essential for fostering the sustainable growth of agricultural cultural heritage. Based on 257 questionnaires of farmers in two villages using Anshan Nanguo pear cultivation systems, this study uses structural equation modeling (SEM) to explore the mechanism influencing farmers’ willingness to participate in AHT development. The findings reveal that (1) participation opportunity, participation ability, and identity recognition have significant positive effects on participation in AHT development willingness, while participation motivation has no significant positive effect on participation in AHT development willingness; (2) participation opportunity, participation ability, and identity recognition have significant positive effects on participation motivation; (3) participation motivation has a partial mediating effect among participation opportunity, participation ability, identity recognition, and participation in AHT development willingness. The strategies and recommendations put forth in this article have substantial practical implications for enhancing farmers’ willingness to participate in AHT development. Furthermore, this research contributes to broadening the research perspectives on AHT and promoting the sustainable preservation and tourism utilization of agricultural heritage within community participation frameworks.
This chapter presents work undertaken between 2016 and 2018 as part of a government-commissioned project concerning the longan agricultural landscape in southern Taiwan. Longan is a tropical tree that produces edible fruit. The nature of the fruit means that it can usually not be preserved or transported. In the hill areas of southern Taiwan, there is a landscape of longan trees and orchards and associated roasting stoves. Public Participation Geographic Information Systems is a method used in studies related to public affairs and in community development. The data and community trust built throughout the research project will be important for further planning and heritage conservation, including the possible promotion of projects related to the local economy, tourism, travel, and so on. It is widely recognised that conservation of cultural landscapes is a dynamic process and one in which the continuity of function of a landscape is essential.
Research on the Challenges and Approaches to Family Inheritance of Ethnic Traditional Sports Culture
Through the comprehensive use of literature, fieldwork, interviews, questionnaires, data analysis, logical reasoning and other methods, the study takes Shizhu County, Chongqing Municipality, one of the Tujia settlements in China, as an example to sort out the dilemmas that families currently face in the transmission of ethnic traditional sports culture, and to analyze the factors that lead to the dilemmas in the transmission of ethnic traditional sports culture. The results of the study show that there are the following dilemmas in the family inheritance of ethnic traditional sports culture in Shizhu County: alienation of children's ethnic traditional sports culture capital acquisition; lack of family integration of ethnic traditional sports culture; misunderstanding of the family's joint participation in ethnic traditional sports activities; lack of the main body of cultural inheritance, intergenerational inheritance stagnation; and lack of self-awareness of ethnic traditional sports culture. Based on the results of research on the relationship between the family environment and the inheritance of traditional ethnic sports culture, several experiences and insights have been presented: Strengthen the national cultural identity and establish the correct beliefs of parents; pay attention to the transformation of family capital and optimize the structure of capital distribution; create a supportive behavioral environment in the family to enhance the interaction between parents and children; promote the creation of the physical environment of traditional national sports and the precise implementation of the ground; integrate into classroom teaching and promote the "feeding" inheritance; strengthen social guidance to enhance the awareness of national sports; strengthen the platform construction to enhance the cultural atmosphere of traditional national sports. Integrate into classroom teaching to promote "feeding" inheritance; strengthen social guidance to enhance the awareness of national sports; and strengthen platform construction to enhance the cultural atmosphere of national traditional sports.
Generally the community describes the “cultural heritage” such as historic, artistic, scientific and traditional. These definitions often coincide with the attribution of “value” and “identity”. Many answers about what could “cultural heritage” be are explained as a set together with their specific value, such as landscape and architecture of high artistic value and historic materials of scientific value. In contrast it is not possible to rely on this generality of definitions. The reality shows that the definition of value of “cultural heritage” changes in relation to the person, culture, geography, social and economic conditions. In other words, in relation to the person, the standpoint of value of “cultural heritage” is different according to each category, such as ruins, works of art, historic cities and gardens, and it is rare that one category simultaneously holds many of such values. It is believed that there are no words or phrases that comprehensively explain the various values that prescribe “cultural heritage”. Therefore in defining “cultural heritage” its values not must be specifically expressed as historic, artistic, scientific and others, but should be left in a way that can correspond also to the concept of a “cultural heritage” the significance of identity and of inheritance. Define the value of cultural heritage means to analyze the identity of the site and its contents of inheritance. The concepts of value and inheritance analyzed here are not related to economic considerations. Differently these concepts are analyzed with reference to scientific theories of A. K. Sen, M. W. Feldman and L. Cavalli-Sforza. In fact this paper proposes a reflection on these concepts with the support of interdisciplinary studies.
The excessive commercialization and spatial compression resulting from tourism endanger the continuity of intangible cultural heritage (ICH) within ethnic communities. Resilience plays a critical role in the sustainable inheritance of ICH; however, the analysis of cultural inheritance through the lens of resilience remains inadequate, highlighting the need for theoretical exploration and evaluation. This study introduces the “Resilience-Based Cultural Inheritance (RBCI)” framework and develops an associated scale to address these deficiencies. A mixed-methods approach was utilized in two representative ethnic communities in Guizhou, China, the Xijiang Miao and Zhaoxing Dong communities. In the first study, grounded theory was employed to elucidate the dimensions of RBCI. Multiple data sources, including interviews, online reviews, and travelogues, were employed to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the concepts. The second study involved three critical procedures for scale development and validation: item generation, structural exploration, and validity testing. These steps were undertaken to develop a comprehensive measurement tool to assess the cultural inheritance status of ICH in ethnic communities. This research introduces the concept of RBCI and constructs and validates its four-dimensional theoretical framework, which includes Cultural Core Activation (CCA), Dynamical Cultural Contexts (DCC), Moderate Cultural Adaptations (MCA), and Valuable Cultural Outcomes (VCO). Furthermore, it rigorously develops a 14-item RBCI scale characterized by strong reliability and validity. The RBCI framework integrates spontaneous resilience mechanisms and proactive adaptation strategies to mitigate external disturbances and achieve sustainability. This study operationalizes the core principles of resilience theory into distinct dimensions of cultural inheritance, emphasizing proactive adaptability as a unique resilience mechanism within cultural systems and moderate adaptation as a balanced process that remains aligned with core values. This study not only provides a management tool for assessing ICH inheritance in ethnic villages but also deepens the understanding of cultural inheritance and sustainable development from a resilience perspective.
To analyse the processes of development of Marxist philosophical and socio-political doctrine in China in the second half of the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries; to systematically reconstruct the peculiarities of the interpretation of its axiomatics by modern Chinese researchers; to determine the main trends, goals and objectives of modernization and Chineseization of Marxism in the People’s Republic of China; to reveal the attributive features of the ideological, theoretical, methodological and ideological foundations of those innovative approaches and narratives for the renewal of Marxist philosophy and social studies, which are offered by representatives of the modern scientific community of Chinese philosophers, political scientists, historians and may become paradigmatic in this century. The main research methods were systemic, structural-functional, comparative, discursive, content analysis, and prescriptions of the general scientific principles of Scientism and Historicism. Based on the analysis of the publications of modern Chinese, Ukrainian and Russian researchers, theoretical reconstruction of the specifics of the development of Marxist philosophical and socio-political doctrine in China in the second half of the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries is proposed; the influence of objective and subjective factors on them is characterized. Among them, the greatest attention was paid to the conceptual reflection of how the needs for the fundamental and large-scale modernization of Chinese society necessitated the revision and updating of the diamat-istmat version of Marxism, which, by the early 1960s, had become conservative, orthodox and scholastic, turned into a paradigm in the scientific environment of Soviet-style states, and into metanarrative in the political system of the People’s Republic of China (as well
Purpose The socialist construction with Chinese characteristics must be based on history and reality. According to the requirements of liberation and development of productivity, efforts must be made to reform and improve the production relations, as well as continually consolidate the socialist system with Chinese characteristics. The purpose of this paper is to prove the necessity and superiority of a socialist system through China’s modernization achievements. Design/methodology/approach Marxist political economics is a critical legacy from classical economics. Its core question is also social production and distribution, which is epitomized in the labor theory of value and the theory of surplus value. Findings Regarding the significant principles that must be followed, these speeches summarized the logical system and prominent features of the socialist political system in the new normal from several significant and interrelated aspects such as basic methods, core propositions, main tasks and fundamental goals. Originality/value The socialist system with Chinese characteristics will gradually appear through further research and prove its superiority. How can a socialist system with Chinese characteristics innovate and develop? Does the system have a future? Is there any historical necessity for the socialist system to replace the capitalist system in human history? These are the questions that need urgent answers and in-depth exploration.

This paper examines how digital technologies facilitate business model innovations in the creative industries. Through a systematic literature review, a holistic business model framework is developed, which is then used to analyse the empirical evidence from the creative industries. The research found that digital technologies have facilitated pervasive changes in business models, and some significant trends have emerged. However, the reconfigured business models are often not ‘new’ in the unprecedented sense. Business model innovations are primarily reflected in using digital technologies to enable the deployment of a wider range of business models than previously available to a firm. A significant emerging trend is the increasing adoption of multiple business models as a portfolio within one firm. This is happening in firms of all sizes, when one firm uses multiple business models to servedifferent markets segments, sell different products, or engage with multi-sided markets, or to use different business models over time. The holistic business model framework is refined and extended through a recursive learning process, which can serve both as a cognitive instrument for understanding business models and a planning tool for business model innovations. The paper contributes to our understanding of the theory of business models and how digital technologies facilitate business model innovations in the creative industries. Three new themes for future research are highlighted.
